Understanding The User
With that Dog-Go! is a product not created yet, we began to identify the primary target, which we concluded were dog owners aged between 18 and 65.
However, we decided to narrow it down to dog owners aged between 18 and 40 since the majority in that age use apps more frequently.
To gain deeper understanding the current market, we analyzed the 3 most popular apps with tailored for dog owners. Which we noticed didn't have much to offer dog owners in terms of functionality and features.
Interviews
We Interviewed 10 dog owners to learn more what their motivations, frustrations, and interests in an app to help them in their everyday.
After summarizing the results from our interviews, we could identify the 3 most important key findings:
A simple and intuitive user interface.
Social features that connect dog owners with other dog owners.
Easily accessible and available on both iOS and Android platforms.
Define
With information from our research, insights, and key findings, we made sure to prioritize the importance of features that would make it easy for dog owners to quickly and easily find new dog-friendly locations.
To ensure that our focus remained on designing for our target user group, we created an Persona that represented their interests, motivations, and needs.
With it we could always remind ourselves of our users needs and frustrations.
Design
After gathering valuable insights from our User research, we mapped out the
Key features of our new product. With this plan in hand, we crafted User flows and User interfaces to shape our app.
We created rough Wireframes and High-fidelity prototypes to refine and enhance the design, ensuring a smooth User experience every step of the way.
Validation
With our High-fidelity design, we created a clickable prototype to bring our designs to life and put it to the test with 5 Dog owners, our core user base.
They went through the prototype, praising that it had an intuitive interface and practical features.
Their feedback from the test were very valuable insights, pinpointing areas for improvement. With their valuable input in hand, we dove into iterations,
fine-tuning the design, enhancing features, and streamlining navigation to elevate the app's overall user experience.
Challenges
Diving into this project marked my first project into the world of UX design, and it presented me with unfamiliar tasks and challenges. From conducting user interviews to gather insights, to brainstorming and prioritizing features, and then translating these ideas into Wireframes and UI designs, every step was uncharted territory.
Also navigating the dynamics of a new team was difficult at the beginning.
As a newcomer to the field of UX, I not only had to grapple with understanding the intricacies of UX design but also had to establish effective communication and collaboration with new classmates.
However, despite the initial difficulties, tackling these challenges head-on proved beneficial to my growth as a designer. With each obstacle, I gained valuable experience in problem-solving and gained insights into the collaborative process.
In overall, these challenges were invaluable learning experiences that have played a vital role in shaping my skills and perspective as a UX designer.
